     George Ogilvie was born on 9 January 1784 at Dundee. He was educated in 1802 at Edinburgh University and London to become a surgeon. He went on several voyages c. 1805 to China as ship's surgeon. On one voyage he was requested by the company to serve as Surgeon and Purser of the Discovery, a vessel fitted out to survey the China Seas. Rachel Ogilvie
     Rachel Ogilvie was christened on 2 August 1816 at Dundee. As of 10 June 1840,her married name was Duncan. She married Dr James Duncan on 10 June 1840 at Dundee, Scotland, attended by 44 relations. In an addendum to Annie Ogilvie's Memoirs, her daughter Minnie Ogilvie writes: "One of her (Rachel [nee Jameson] Ogilvie's) greatest sorrows was the death of her daughter Rachel in India. (Alas! How many go to that country never to return). She had had an unhappy love affair, and when another opportunity of marriage presented itself, in the person of Major Duncan, a medical officer in the East India Company's service, her parents put no obstacle in her way, though when they said goodbye to her they had little hope of seeing her again. It turned out as they feared, for she died in India and her husband soon after her, and the children came home with their Ayah to fill an empty corner in the Mother's heart." Rachel Ogilvie died on 21 September 1846 at Cherrapunje, Meghalaya, India, at age 30 at the birth of her third baby, Hannah. To read the "Ayah's Story" click icon above.

     James Ogilvie was born in 1811 at Broughty Ferry. He was educated in 1828 at St Andrews University. He was described as merchant. In 1830 he traveled to New York and spent several years there. He was buried on 5 December 1836 at Howff Cemetery, Dundee.

     John Jameson was born in 1741. He was educated in 1755 at St Andrews Universityand was sent to Edinburgh to complete his education where he studied civil law with his father's friend, a Mr. Orme. He was a lawyer and was appointed Town Clerk for the town of Dysart. He was also a factor for a local landowner, Col. St Clair. He married Sophia Anderson circa 1770. Sophia was the widow of John Anderson and had several children by him. In 1801 the office of Sheriff Substitute was offered to him. He asked if, instead, it could be offered to his eldest son, Andrew, who had completed his legal apprenticeship in 1798. John Jameson died in 1819 at of a bowel complaint.

     Sophia Anderson was born in 1738. She married John Jameson, son of Andrew Jameson and Margaret Gib, circa 1770. Sophia was the widow of John Anderson and had several children by him. As of circa 1770,her married name was Jameson. In addition to the eight children she bore, Sophia took in the orphans left by the deaths of her husband's sister, Janet Jameson and her sister's husband Rev Neil Bethune. Sophia Anderson died in 1788.
