     Robert I, known as Robert the Bruce, was born in 1274. Robert the Bruce was Knight and Overlord of Annandale. In 1306 he was crowned King of Scotland (reigned 1306-1329) and henceforth tried to free Scotland from the English enemy. After being defeated at battle, Bruce escaped and found a hideout in a cave. Hiding in the cave for 3 months, Bruce was at the lowest point of his life. He thought about leaving the country and never coming back. While waiting, he watched a spider building a web at the cave's entrance. The spider fell down time after time, but finally succeeded with his web. So Bruce decided also to retry his fight and told his men: "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again". This story is a legend; however, in 1314 he defeated the British at the battle of Bannockburn. When he died he passed on a kingdom that was united and consciously Scottish as never before. The Battle of Bannockburn, 24 June 1314, was a significant Scottish victory in the First War of Scottish Independence, and a landmark in Scottish History.

Stirling Castle, a Scots royal fortress, occupied by the English, was under siege by the Scottish army. Edward II of England assembled a formidable force to relieve it. This attempt failed, and his army was defeated in a pitched battle by a smaller army commanded by Robert I of Scotland. Robert the Bruce died in 1329.

     David II was born in 1324. David II was the son of Bruce's second marriage. He was a child-king, five years old when he acceded to the throne. At the age of 10 he was married to Joanna, daughter of Edward II of England, and they were both sent to France for safety. David returned to Scotland in 1341 and then 5 years later invaded England where he was captured and kept prisoner for 11 years. He returned to Scotland in 1357 after payment of a huge ransom. David II died in 1371.

     John Ogilvy of Inshewan was born circa 1680 at Inshewan, Scotland. He married Mary Keith of Redcloak in 1705. John Ogilvy of Inshewan died in 1741.

     Mary Keith of Redcloak was born in 1683 at Redcloak. As of 1705,her married name was Ogilvy. She married John Ogilvy of Inshewan in 1705.

     Jean Ogilvy was born circa 1740. She married Walter Ogilvy 8th Earl of Airlie on 12 November 1780. Jean Ogilvy died on 11 June 1818.

     Walter Ogilvy 8th Earl of Airlie was born in 1733. He married Jean Ogilvy, daughter of John Ogilvy of Inshewan and Mary Keith of Redcloak, on 12 November 1780. Walter Ogilvy 8th Earl of Airlie died in 1819.

     David Ogilvy 9th Earl of Airlie was born on 19 December 1785. He married Clementina Drummond on 7 October 1812. David Ogilvy 9th Earl of Airlie died on 20 August 1849 at age 63.

     David Ogilvy 10th Earl of Airlie was born on 4 May 1826. He married Henrietta Stanley on 23 September 1851. David Ogilvy 10th Earl of Airlie died in 1881 at Boulder, Colorado.

     Charles Ogilvy was born on 13 October 1750.

     Margaret Ogilvy was born on 10 October 1753. She died in 1825 at London.

     James Ogilvy was born on 16 June 1809. He died on 25 July 1863 at age 54.

     Charles Ogilvy was born on 12 August 1813. He died on 27 January 1838 at age 24.

     John Ogilvy was born on 5 December 1814.

     Walter Ogilvy was born on 5 December 1821. He died in 1879.

     Stretton Skinner Ogilvy was born on 26 June 1820. He died on 13 November 1898 at age 78.

     Anne Ogilvy was born on 1 February 1811. As of circa 1831,her married name was Birnie. She died on 23 October 1888 at age 77.

     Helen Ogilvy was born in 1818. As of 26 December 1849,her married name was Bell.

     Jane Arbrothnott Ogilvy was born in 1819. As of 1839,her married name was Steele.
