Andrew Jameson Ogilvie was born in 1855 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland. He was a student at St. Andrew's University for one term. He sailed to Perth, Western Australia on the vessel Gem and arrived on 20 November 1872 according to the Bi-Centennial Dictionary of Western Australians. He leased 600 acres, then 2 larger properties of 1,000 and 16,000 acres in 1877. In 1878 he employed a cook and a well-digger in 1881. On his 1896 marriage certificate, he is listed as a Sheep Farmer. Later he ran a horse and cattle property with varying success. Andrew had a common-law wife, Jilba, an Aborinal woman, prior to his marriage to Ada Fisher. Jilba was, almost certainly, the mother of John Jameson. After Andrew died Murchison Station was purchased by a man from India (the Shah of ...) All of Andrew's records were destroyed. Government records show Jilba as working on the station with "her 3 children". Jilba is buried in the same plot as Andrew - click on icon above to see details in Cemetery description. He married Ada Leila Frances Fisher, daughter of William Henry (Will) Fisher and Fanny Maria Sainsbury, on 13 January 1896 at The Church, Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia. Andrew Jameson Ogilvie died on 8 October 1906 at Watts Pool, Murchison, Western Australia, by drowning. An inquest was conducted and his death was ruled "accidental by drowning". It appeared that he had gone duck hunting, which he enjoyed, and slipped and fell into 3 feet of water which soon became 10 feet where his body was found. His wife said that he was "timid of water" and he apparently had tried to grasp an object to hold onto, but could not and drowned in the Murchison River. An obituary in the Geraldton Express, a local newspaper described Andrew Ogilvie as "a gentleman in every sense of the word, and those who knew him best doubt that he created a single enemy during the whole of his career in the Northampton District. While always taking a keen interest in public matters, he abstained from public participation, his retiring disposition preventing him from engaging in the turmoil incidental to party warfare of any sort of kind."

But she was a sad person with little sense of humour and power of relaxation .... She was [also] inflexible, uncompromising and intolerant. She was determined to make us good and for anything that she judged wrong I was ostracized until I had confessed and apologised...But [this] never made the least difference to my love for Mother or my knowledge that she was doing what she believed was right for my good....
